MINDMAP OF THE DAY: JUNE 15, 2013 MARKUS REUGELS: LIQUID PLANETS

This image by Markus Reugels is part of a series in which he uses large satellite photos or other representations of planets as a backdrop and a high speed camera to capture the background’s refraction through falling water drops, triggering his camera at the correct split-second moment. A parquet-floor layer by day, Markus Reugels, from Schweinfurt, Germany, creates his work in the evening, and can spend weeks agonising over snapping the image – but the results, not manipulated or colored by a computer, are stunning, showing spherical representations of the Earth, Moon or Jupiter that look uncannily true to life..
